In this episode, Zandrina sat down with Joe Clarke, musician, educator, bandleader and, alongside his wife Rosie Clarke, founder and owner of Forte Jazz Lounge.
Long before Forte opened its doors in downtown Charleston, Joe’s journey included percussion, trumpet, piano, big bands, the American Songbook, The Citadel, the College of Charleston and decades of performing and leading musicians.
Eventually, that journey became a vision: create a dedicated listening room where live jazz could truly thrive.
They talked about the road to Forte, building a music venue, surviving the unexpected, Charleston’s live-music community, and what it takes to create space for artists and audiences to connect.
