Janet: Anthology of an Icon
This tribute was created to honor Janet Jackson—one of the most influential entertainers in music history, whose impact transcends sound, style, choreography, and generations. But this show was also deeply personal.
Premiering on August 17, 2018 at Charleston Pour House, the performance served as a heartfelt tribute to Terence Reid, Zandrina Dunning’s best friend, who transitioned in October of 2014 and was one of Janet Jackson’s biggest fans. His love for Janet wasn’t just admiration—it was connection. Terence was blessed with the opportunity to meet his icon during his work on For Colored Girls, directed by Tyler Perry, a moment that meant the world to him. In a powerful full-circle act of grace, Janet Jackson later sent flowers to Terence while he was hospitalized—an unforgettable gesture that deepened the meaning behind this tribute.
The show brought together an electrifying lineup of artists and collaborators, including Black Diamond, Zandrina Dunning, Aisha Kenyetta, Tonya Williams, Starr Queen, Black Noyze, and Benny Starr—each lending their voice, energy, and artistry to celebrate Janet’s legacy. The night was elevated further by dynamic performances from Dance Lab’s Bad Girls Club and seamless vibes curated by DJ Scrib, creating a high-impact, immersive experience that honored Janet’s signature fusion of music, movement, and message.
Adding depth and polish to the production were pristine backing vocals by Corinthian Doctor, whose harmonies grounded the show in musical excellence and emotional resonance.
More than a tribute concert, this was a celebration of legacy, friendship, and remembrance—a night where music became memory, and performance became purpose.
