This Is America: In Our Own Words
July 24 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Join Charleston’s first and second Poet Laureates, Marcus Amaker and Asiah Mae, for an evening of poetry you don’t want to miss.
As part of the ongoing This Is America exhibition, join Charleston’s first and second Poet Laureates for an evening of poetry, storytelling, and conversation exploring identity, belonging, community, and the evolving American story.
Inspired by the powerful response to the exhibition’s opening reception, In Our Own Words continues the dialogue through spoken word, personal reflection, and meaningful conversation. As America approaches its 250th anniversary, Marcus Amaker and Asiah Mae invite us to consider how our individual stories help shape a nation that is still defining itself.
- 6:00 PM – Gallery Viewing
- 6:30 PM – Poetry & Conversation with Marcus Amaker and Asiah Mae
- 7:30 PM – Community Conversation & Mingle
